Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This Privacy Policy explains how RateGuard ("we," "us," or "the app") handles information when you use the RateGuard watchOS application. RateGuard is designed so your workout and health data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share it.
Information We Do Not Collect
RateGuard does not operate any servers that receive your personal data. We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell:
- Your heart-rate readings
- Your workout history
- Your location or workout routes
- Personally identifiable information about you or your device
- Analytics, telemetry, or behavioral tracking data
HealthKit Data
RateGuard reads and writes data through Apple's HealthKit framework while you use the app. With your permission, it reads your live heart rate, distance, and active energy during workouts, and writes the completed workout (and route, for outdoor workouts) back to Apple Health. This information stays on your Apple Watch and iPhone in Apple's encrypted Health database. RateGuard never transmits HealthKit data off your devices.
You can review or revoke RateGuard's HealthKit permissions at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → RateGuard on your iPhone.
Location Data
If you start an outdoor workout (Outdoor Run, Outdoor Walk, or Outdoor Cycle), RateGuard requests permission to use your location while the app is in use. Location samples are used solely to record the workout route into Apple Health using Apple's HKWorkoutRouteBuilder. Location data is never transmitted off your device. If you deny location access, RateGuard will still monitor your heart rate and save your workout — only the route will be omitted.
Local Settings
The app stores your selected workout type, heart-rate thresholds, and an in-progress workout-recovery record in your device's UserDefaults storage. This data is local to your device, is not shared with us, and is removed when you uninstall the app.
Third-Party Services
RateGuard does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or marketing services. No third-party SDKs collect data from the app.
Children's Privacy
RateGuard is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we do not collect personal information at all, no child-specific data ever reaches us.
Changes to This Policy
If we materially change how data is handled, we will update this policy and revise the "Last updated" date above. Substantive changes will be highlighted in the app's release notes.
