Frequently asked questions
RateGuard says it can’t save my workout.
Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → RateGuard on your iPhone and make sure "Workouts" is enabled for writing. RateGuard cannot save a workout without this permission. After enabling it, restart the app.
My heart rate shows "—" during a workout.
Heart-rate samples sometimes drop out briefly — for example if the watch loses skin contact. RateGuard treats more than ten seconds of missing data as "HR unavailable" and suspends alerts until samples return. Make sure the watch is snug on your wrist above the wrist bone, and verify that Heart Rate access is granted in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → RateGuard.
My outdoor run didn’t record a route.
Route recording requires location permission. The first time you start an outdoor workout, iOS asks for "While Using the App" location access. If you previously declined, you can re-enable it in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → RateGuard. Workouts still save without a route if location is denied.
Why does RateGuard need the Audio background mode?
It doesn't play any audio. Apple's guidance for workout apps that deliver haptic feedback while the watch is in the background is to enable both the workout processing and audio background modes. RateGuard does the latter only to satisfy this requirement — no sound is ever produced.
RateGuard reopened with a "Recovered Workout" screen.
If the app crashed or was force-quit mid-workout, watchOS hands the active workout session back when RateGuard relaunches. You can finish and save it from that screen, or discard it — your choice. RateGuard never silently discards a workout for you.
How do I uninstall and remove my data?
Remove RateGuard from the Apple Watch home screen the same way you remove any other app. RateGuard's local settings are deleted with the app. Workouts you've already saved to Apple Health remain in Health — you can delete them individually from the Health app on iPhone if you wish.
